Bali getaway Day 7

15/8/2015

Itinerary of today:
Car rental
Klungkung Royal Palace
Goa Gajah
Dinner @Bebek Bengil

What a short stay in Sari Villa Sanur Beach! Didn't do anything there but just for a sleep and breakfast then gotta leave for another place again.
Breakfast there was in form of sets. There were three sets to choose from: Indonesian, English or cereals and fruit with complimentary juice. These simple ones certainly suited our appetite after a few days of buffet breakfast.

Made our way to Ubud and we bumped into a large performance due to the Independence Day on our way to Klungkung Royal Palace. Flags could be seen everywhere and the whole town was full of joy. Crowds of people to be seen at every corner.

Walking along the street we saw a beautiful architecture. The bright orange colour was very attractive and we tried to go inside and check out what it is. We found no clues but just seeing some men making the decoration for the Independence Day using bamboos. That was quite amazing seeing such handicrafts.

Continued to make our way to Klungkung Royal Palace (Rp12000/ person). We found it hard to understand what it is without a tour guide when we first went inside. Later on, we saw most of the tourists staying in The Hall of Justice which was located within the grounds of Semara Pura. Luckily, we saw some guides explaining the paintings to a group of tourists. Finally we found out that this was the supreme court of the Klungkung Kingdom. It is an open sided pavilion with the ceiling completely covered inside with paintings done in the Kamasan style. Didn't spend much time here as we were not keen on its history. Anyhow, we appreciated the beauty of the palace.

Headed north to the Goa Gajah (Rp15000/ person). We were made to wear a sarong as usual and we were able to cover the whole area within an hour.

You would pass by a beautiful pond before seeing the cave.

The rock at the entrance of the cave is carved beautifully but the cave itself was somewhat disappointing with only two spiritual figures.

What rather impressed me was the trails with a huge tree with long big roots. We looked really tiny sitting on them.

Opening hours: 8:00AM - 4:00PM

Arriving at Ubud, we went for lunch in Fair Warung Balé in purpose (Rp200000 with donations included). Came across this restaurant online while planning this Bali trip. Food was spectacular, fresh, and cheap.

What makes this place truly special is the charitable concept. The waiters are underprivileged young people. They run it kinda like a social workshop that supports and founds a Comprehensive & Massive Public Healthcare Program.  Found it very meaningful as everything this restaurant makes goes towards providing free medical care to those who need it most. It is definitely a place full of love.

Initially wanna drop our baggage and check-in Mulawarman Guesthouse first. But as it lies in a newly developed area (that's what I thought), even the driver found it hard to find the way getting there. Our car couldn't reach the guest house directly since the road was still not properly built. It took us like 5 more minutes to walk there with our suitcases rolling on the rocky road. (Yet we were quite satisfied with the location of the guesthouse later on as it is in a walking distance to the town centre.)

I booked the cheapest jungle view room (HKD295) but seeing the room in person, I couldn't accept the bathroom with toilet and shower setting together without even a curtain to avoid the toilet getting wet. After precise discussion, we decided to pay an extra Rp400000 upgrading to a more comfy room. Of course it was over-priced but we had no choice coz we didn't want to spend time looking for another guesthouse..

Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a nature reserve and Hindu temple complex in Ubud (Rp30000/ person). As there is a monkey forest in Hong Kong as well, we both didn't find it fascinating. Nevertheless, it's still fun seeing other tourists feeding the monkey, laughing and screaming at the same time.

The thing that I looked forward most was enjoying s treatment at Pertenin Spa (Rp200000/ person). We took the Pertenin Flower Bath (2.5 hours) including Balinese massage, body scrub, body mask and a flower bath.

Both my husband and I enjoyed the exceptional services offered in such a good price. The environment was relaxing and clean. The massage was so comfy that I fell asleep. We didn't take the complementary transport provided as it was just in a walking distance to our dining place.

Dinner at Bebek Bengil, claimed to serve the best dirty ducks in town. Both of us thought that it was over-flattered by the tourists.

The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and it's decorated in Balinese style. We ordered fried chicken and fried duck (Rp404140). They came in sets with a few side dishes. Chicken was fine but the fried duck was very dried and it was supposed to be crispy outside and a little bit juicy inside. It looked like they had kept that duck for a long time and just re-heated it.

Nice to experience this famous local food once (and only once) in a life time.

Ubud is such a quiet place with minimal night life. Quite dark everywhere heading back to Mulawarman Guesthouse.
