11/8/2015

Itinerary of today:
Favehotel Seminyak
Car rental
Pura Tanah Lot
Pura Taman Ayun
Lunch @Potato Head Beach Club
Seminyak Square
Tea @Sea Circus
Dinner @Bale Udang Mang Engking
Massage @La Karma Spa

Rented a car today to do sightseeing around the Seminyak area. (Rp500000) We asked the driver to meet us up at the hotel at 9am. Went down for breakfast 20 minutes before that and they were already there! Why it was a 'they'? Coz our driver was coaching a new one. They were both very polite and whenever we got on or off the car, they both opened the door for us immediately.
Back to the breakfast offered by the hotel, it was just fair. It took turns providing Balinese and western styled  breakfast which was great as we were staying there for 4 nights and we didn't need to have the same food every day. The best thing was that they had a corner cooking eggs for guests instantly. Scrabbled egg was my all time favourite.

The roads in Bali are narrow and with bad condition. Felt lucky that we didn't insist to drive on our own. Or else it would be a big problem for us during the long journey.

Our first stop of the day was Pura Tanah Lot (Rp30000/ person). It is one of the most famous tourist attractions which worth to pay a visit. It attracts thousands of tourists every day. It is also a cultural icon in Bali. Tanah Lot means 'Land in the sea'. There is a temple sitting on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.

It was such a beautiful and unique scene. No wonder many Asian couples come here to take pre-wedding photos. The temple can only be accessed when it is in low tide but it was not during our visit. Still, we saw some people trying to get to the temple. We didn't want to get wet, so just took a few pictures on the shore.

There was a cave with local people showing you some snakes. We were not interested in it and just went uphill to see the souvenirs, then to another side of the Tanah Lot.

View of the Tanah Lot from another angle.

It took quite long to walk out of the Tanah Lot as there were so many stalls selling souvenirs! We bought some cola for the drivers as well as ourselves at the entrance. It was amazingly cheap! (Rp23000 for 3)

Made our way to Pura Taman Ayun then. (R15000/ person) It was a temple along with a big garden. It was quite interesting seeing a family temple becoming a historical place with beautiful architecture.

Pura Taman Ayun

Time for lunch. Potato Head Beach Club was very tourist-friendly with a variety of international food. We were lucky to take a table without booking. Yet the rest of the people behind us needed to come back in more then an hour as it was already full. Hip atmosphere with wonderful music, what a heavenly place to spend our afternoon there.

We ordered chicken burger with fries, squid ink pasta, Calypso and Mango Lassy. (Rp405000) The chicken burger was tender and juicy! Highly recommended!

Didin't bring along our swimsuits but watching people swimming and sunbathing was also a kind of enjoyment.

Seminyak Square was nearby. We didn't find it attractive but still got something to buy. A postcard and some stamps cost us Rp81000. We found ourselves stupid noticing the Rp5000 stamp cost Rp6000 each after leaving the shop.

There were lots of nice restaurants nearby. The most popular one was The Junction. But we were targeting at another restaurant for a drink. So, maybe next time.

Couldn't stand the hot weather and bought another bottle of water. (Rp8000) It was even cheaper in this area.

That's the one I planned to have a drink in there- Sea Circus. The colourful outlook of the little house was so fascinating and really gave us a sense of happiness. Had two glasses of drinks (Rp75400) and got lots of great photos here.

A lovely boutique next door. Reminded me of the colourful houses in Brighton, Melbourne.

Continued to feed ourselves like pigs. Bale Udang Mang Engking was once introduced on a famous Taiwanese travel programme. Again, didn't make reservation and were not able to get a 'bale' to sit in. Anyway, the environment was romantic with dim lights. It served up the best authentic Indonesian food. It was such a big feast and excellent value for money. (Rp371800)

Still early getting back to our hotel. Wandered around and saw a cute clean shop for massage- La Karma Spa. Always not finding it pleasure going into a massage shop which looks dark and not clean, but surely it was not the case for this one! It was fully booked and we needed to return an hour later. Lawrence did a back massage whereas I had a foot massage. It was a great deal costing Rp70000 only yet perfectly done! Got addicted for the first trial already!
