Cooked our own breakfast in the morning to save some money for a nice dinner. Actually I remembered we packed some sandwiches as well so that we could have them on the go.
My dear left something in the apartment, giving me a great chance to hang around the area by myself. Here on the right was our apartment. There were a couple of cafes and bars along the street and the noise (acceptable) went up to mid-night. And Centre Pompidou was around the corner.
To continue with our museums journey, we planned to visit Notre- Dame first.(EUR8, free with Paris Museum Pass) Having the experience of seeing long queues everywhere in Paris, we arrived early in the morning at around 9a.m. But seemed we were not the smartest ones. There was already a long line out there at the entrance! We spent around 45 minutes for our turn to get in. That's quite ok coz Lawrence and I took turn to tour around the souvenirs shops.
The cathedral is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture and among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world. There are many small individually crafted statues placed around the outside to serve as column supports and water spouts.
The cathedral down there is free. But we gotta get into the long line again. It was moving quite fast though.
By now, we had already fed ourselves with our home-made sandwiches. On the way to Sainte- Chapelle, we saw our savior, which was Glace de la Mansion. This cafe served giant meal with reasonable price. We ordered a hotdog with drink (EUR4.5) and Kebab with chips (EUR5.5) and we were both stuffed. (They were with us until we visited the 4th museum of the day!)
(Finished the hotdog before we got in) Sainte- Chapelle (EUR8, free with Paris Museum Pass) is one of the surviving buildings of the Capetian royal palace on the Cité Island. Being damaged during the French revolution and restored in the 19th century, it retains one of the most extensive collections of 13th-century stained glass anywhere in the world. I was especially impressed by the classy blue roof.
(Had part of the giant kebab before we got in) Conciergerie (EUR7, free with Paris Museum Pass) is a former prison in Paris. Hundreds of prisoners were taken from La Conciergerie to be executed on the guillotine during the French Revolution.
They've got hierarchy even for prisoner. Better rooms for richer ones.
Florists were everywhere in this romantic city.
(Continued with our giant kebab before we got in) Musee du Louvre (EUR11, free with Paris Museum Pass) is one of the must-see museums. It is one of the world's largest museums and a historic monument. Nearly 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited there.
We could only name a few well-known artworks like La Joconde, Samothrace, Venus de Milo and Le Sacre de Napoleon and so, we mainly took a look at four of them.
La Joconde, also named Mona Lisa, shouldn't be unfamiliar with all of us. It is a portrait of a woman by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, which has been claimed as the best known, the most visited and the most parodied work of art in the world. Of course it was quite hard to reach it with heaps of people surrounding the picture.
Samothrace is a Greek sculpture created not only to honor the goddess, Nike, but to honor a sea battle.
Venus de Milo is another ancient marble Greek sculpture and it is one of the most famous works. The arms and original plinth were lost following its discovery.
Le Sacre de Napoleon is a painting completed by the official painter of Napoleon. The crowning and the coronation took place at Notre- Dame.
After all these art stuff, we sat down to finish up our kebab with whole lot of chips. This meal was really cool! So cheap but still could feed us 3 times!
Right to the west is Arc De Triomphe du Carrousel. It looked like an entrance of Jardin des Tuileries. We spent only half an hour there in the park coz it was very windy and dusty for some reasons.
Another way out of Jardin des Tuileries was Place de la Concorde, where the statue stood out coz of its height.
Finally, we arrived at the Galeries Lafayette. Our purpose was not shopping for goods, but only for the beautiful ceiling and the seafood platter. We went up to Poissons Coquillages et Crustaces, ordered Plateau de Marin and 2 happy hour sets. (EUR56 in total) The seafood was so freshly served! As a fan of seafood (especially oysters), it really worth to cut our cost on eating for a few days and saved the money to enjoy our decent meal here!
After the best meal ever in our trip, we took the metro from Opera back to our apartment. (2 tickets)
We were not heading home yet but to visit Centre Pompidou. (EUR11, free with Paris Museum Pass) As it was too late arriving there at around 8:30p.m., some of the exhibitions were closed and there was not much to see. But we were so lucky to catch the sunset from the building.
Seafood definitely could not satisfy a muscular man as dinner. So we cooked the leftover the night before and hence, had supper at our apartment before we went to bed, which was good for me! (Don't know why kept eating but lost so much weight! Maybe due to too much walk everyday...)
